The American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM) 2022 conference was held in Washington, DC this year on July 10-14. Ass.-Prof. Dr. Sepideh Hatamikia contributed to this conference with a conference proceeding presentation. This is a research project in collaboration with the University of Sydney, Australia, and Johns Hopkins University, USA. The title of study is Continuous dual-isocenter imaging: simultaneously extending the longitudinal and lateral intraoperative 3D CBCT field-of-view for assessing musculoskeletal trauma.
Intraoperative 3D-CBCT imaging is revolutionizing orthopedic interventions. A critical barrier to treatment efficacy, however, is the longitudinal and lateral field-of-view. In this research, we try to overcome field-of-view limitations by developing and investigating a continues dual-isocenter 3D-CBCT imaging acquisition. To image from the hip to the feet of a whole-body phantom, a continuous dual-isocenter acquisition was implemented on a clinical robotic CBCT system which could successfully extend both the longitudinal and lateral CBCT field-of-view. This technological advance will allow improved management of patients via providing intraoperative assessment of long and wide anatomical sites.
